Varicose Veins

Varicose (Spider) Veins: Causes, Symptoms, and TreatmentsVaricose veins are enlarged, swollen, or twisted veins, commonly occurring in the legs and feet, that appear as blue or dark purple, often just beneath the skin's surface. They are typically caused by weakened or damaged valves within the veins, which prevent proper blood flow back to the heart, causing blood to pool.

Weak or damaged valves: The primary cause is the failure of valves in the veins to close properly, allowing blood to flow backward and pool.

Heredity: A family history of varicose veins can increase the likelihood of developing them.

Age: Varicose veins are more common with age, as veins can lose elasticity.

Gender: Women are more likely to develop varicose veins than men.

Obesity: Excess weight can put extra pressure on the veins, contributing to their development.

Prolonged standing or sitting: Standing or sitting for extended periods can strain the veins in the legs.

Pregnancy: Hormonal changes and increased blood volume during pregnancy can also contribute to varicose veins.
