Peripheral Angioplasty

Peripheral Angioplasty

• Peripheral angioplasty is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to open narrowed or blocked arteries in the limbs, typically the legs, caused by peripheral artery disease (PAD).

• It involves inserting a catheter with a balloon into the affected artery and inflating the balloon to widen the artery and improve blood flow.

How it works:

• A thin, flexible tube (catheter) with a balloon is inserted into an artery, usually in the groin.

• The catheter is guided to the blockage, and the balloon is inflated.

• The inflated balloon presses the plaque against the artery wall, widening the artery.

• A stent may be placed to keep the artery open.
